The UDP Warriors are both armed for long range combat, including Electron Guns, Omega AutoBlasters, and a Spinal Cannon.

It is not long before the UDP Omega Suits pick up a couple of blips on their scanners.  It's a pair of RSSP Omega Warriors, and they are closing fast.  One of the RSSP warriors (the one at the top of the picture), is equipped for close combat, and has armed his suit with twin Fusion Gloves.  He has also equipped a Heavy Laser for taking long range pot shots.  His partner is armed with the dreaded Plasma Ball Launcher, and several Big Boy Rockets, and a Heavy Blaster.
 

The RSSP Omega Warrior uses his enhanced speed to head on a flanking maneuver.  He has to be careful crossing the mostly open terrain between him and the UDP Warriors, so he chooses a route that will take him around some small hills that will provide him with some cover.  While he has a Heavy Laser, it is inadequate when compared to the long range firepower of the UDP Suits, and so he must close the distance quickly.  Still, the UDP Omega Warriors begin concentrating their fire on him, inflicting several hits to his defense fields!

 
The RSSP Warrior must cross the final gap of open ground that lies between him and his enemy.  If he can get into close range, he will be able to use his Fusion Gloves to great effect!  But the UDP Warriors are pouring on the fire.  Here, a blast from an Electron Gun just misses the oncoming RSSP Warrior!  But several shots do find their target, and the RSSP Warrior suddenly finds himself with almost no defense fields!

 
The RSSP Omega Warrior decides that if wants to avoid getting blasted to bits by both UDP Omega Warriors, then he had better get into melee.  He rushes, charging up one of his Fusion Gloves.  The resounding "BOOM!" from its impact is heard all across the battlefield, and the UDP Warrior reels from the hit.

The RSSP Warrior rains blow after blow on his opponent, but can't crack his defense fields.  At the same time, the UDP Warrior is pumping short range shots into him, and it is not long before his own defense fields are down and his armor is taking a beating.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the battlefield, the other RSSP Warrior has advanced more slowly, raining Heavy Blaster shots on the UDP Warriors.  Once he gets within range, he launches a shot from his Plasma Ball Launcher, which arcs up through the thin atmosphere before impacting with its target!

The heat from the blast quickly strips most of the defense fields from the Omega Warrior, leaving him vulnerable.  The UDP Warrior decides that survival is more important then defending this piece of barren landscape, and begins withdrawing, if for no better reason than to get out of the fireball he is currently standing in!

As he withdraws, the RSSP Warrior continues to blast him with shots from his Heavy Blaster.  Although not as powerful as the Plasma Ball Launcher, it takes less energy to fire, and has a greater range.  The UDP Warrior fires back with his Spinal Cannon, but his shot goes wide and he finds himself waiting for his suit to recharge before he can fire another shot.

Nearby, the UDP Warrior manages to dodge a wild punch by the RSSP Omega Warrior.  Sensing an opening, he raises his Electron Gun and fires!  The shot punches through the RSSP Warrior's already weakened armor and easily burns and sears the exposed flesh within.  The RSSP Warrior can barely let out a scream as he crumples to the ground, a large hole burned through his chest.

The UDP Warrior doesn't have time to celebrate his victory, however, as the remaining RSSP Warrior, no longer occupied, takes dead-aim and launches the largest weapon he has, a Big Boy Rocket!  You can see the Rocket streaking towards its target here.  Will the UDP Warrior have time to get out of the way?

No, he won't.  The Big Boy Rocket hits the dumbfounded Omega Warrior square on!  He attempts to save himself by overcharging his defense fields, but the stress is to great and his entire field system collapses in a shower of sparks!

The Big Boy Rocket causes tremendous damage to the UDP Warrior's Omega Suit.  While it fails to penetrate the thick armor, it does manage to cause critical damage to the Electron Gun.  Reduced to his Omega AutoBlaster, he realizes that he cannot survive a stand-up fight with the remaining RSSP Warrior.  Wishing to live to fight another day, he juices up his suit and flees from the battlefield.

Conclusion

The RSSP found itself in possession of the barren battlefield, but at the expensive cost of an Omega Warrior.  The surviving RSSP Warrior was promoted to Captain.

The UDP Warriors received no promotions, but they did gain enough experience to enhance their Suits in anticipation of the next battle.

Recon Engagement was played with four players (each taking an Omega Warrior), and lasted approximately 1.5 hours.

We used figures from Grenadier's Future Warriors series.  Unfortunately, Grenadier is out of business, and I do not know if anyone has picked up the molds and plans on producing them once again.  It would be nice if someone did, because this was a nice range of figures.

The battlefield was made by Flagship Games partner, Thomas Foss.  He took several sheets of foam board (2" thick), and applied spray paint, gasoline and acetone to get different scarring effects on the landscape.  The whole thing was then painted and dry brushed with with different earth tones for a very realistic, moon-like effect.
