Starship! Starter Set:
$75.00 - NEW CONFIGURATION!!!
Faced with rising production
costs, we have reconfigured the Starship! Starter Set and dropped the price.
The new Starter Set comes with the Starship! Rules, the S'Tang SS4 Battleship,
the EMC SS4 Battleship, and two Battlepoles. The $60.00 price tag
is a savings of $11.00 over the regular retail price on the items purchased
separately. A great way for you to get started playing Starship!,
right out of the box!
The Battlepole:
$6.00, or $5.00 with ship model purchase
The Battlepole is our wargaming aid
which allows you to recreate three dimensions on the wargaming table, whether
they be space combat, air combat, or undersea combat. The Battlepole comes
with a base, a telescoping antenna, and a 'nipple' which sits over the top of
the antenna and inserts into the model being mounted thereupon. You do
not have to permanently mount any of your models to a Battlepole; they are designed
so that this is not necessary, or even recommended. For more information
on the Battlepole, click here. Battlepoles
are normally $6.00, but we offer a special deal where, if you buy a Starship!
ship model, you can get a Battlepole for it for only $5.00. We also have
a special three pack of Battlepoles for $16.00, which you can get regardless
of any ship model purchase!
Battlepole 3-Pack: $16.00
The incredibly useful Battlepole
in a bargain three pack!
The S'Tang are a race of burrowing omnivores, looking vaguely like humanoid armadillos. When their home world's environment became more hostile thanks to their sun's expansion into a red giant, they developed from a primitive society into an advanced one in a relatively short period of time.
Their past not forgotten, the S'Tang are brutal creatures whose trust must be earned slowly. They are linear thinking creatures, believing in brute force as a solution to many problems. Because of their past, they have a hard time conceiving of a race that is not hostile towards them.
The S'Tang have the following racial characteristics:
The S'Tang Fleet
(left-to-right:
SS2, SS1, SS3, SS4 & SS5)
S'Tang SS1 Corvette - $3.00
each
The S'Tang is small but
brutish looking, just like the S'Tang themselves. This model is cast
in pewter free lead and comes with a nipple for mounting on top of a Battlepole.
S'Tang SS1 Corvette
Squadron - $12.00 each
Get five corvettes for the
price of four with this great Squadron Deal! Comes with five nipples
for mounting on top of Battlepoles.
S'Tang SS2 Frigate/Destroyer
- $7.00 each
This model can be used for
either a Destroyer or Frigate class SS2 ship. More sleek than the
agile S'Tang Corvette, this ship can pack more firepower and armor, but
is still best relegated to a fleet support role.
S'Tang SS3 Light Cruiser/Heavy
Cruiser - $10.00 each
The smallest of the true
ships-of-the-line for the S'Tang is the SS3 Cruiser. It is more than
a match for several smaller ships, and provides excellent support to the
larger ships.
S'Tang SS4 Battlecruiser/Battleship
- $22.00 each
A big step up from the Cruiser,
the S'Tang SS4 packs a fiery wallop with its Plasma Infernos and E-Torps.
S'Tang SS5 Dreadnought/Superdreadnought
- $25.00 each
The S'Tang Dreadnought class
is feared throughout the universe for it's large Plasma Inferno batteries,
capable of reducing a less well protected starship into a twisted mass
of melted metal in seconds. The ultimate physical representation
of the S'Tang's primal thought processes, this ship is designed to bring
the fight in close to the enemy for a quick and brutal finish.
The EMC (European Militaristic Cybersynthesis) are humans who believe in the perfection of the machine. To that end, they typically supplement or replace their own body parts with cybernetic ones, resulting in a cross of man and machine.
The EMC also believe in big ships with big guns. The seldom use ships smaller than SS3, and they are almost never seen as part of a main battle fleet. EMC ships tend to be big and slow, with lots of armor, shields and weapons.
The EMC have the following racial characteristic:
The EMC have four main ship classes: One SS3, two SS4 and one SS5. One of the SS4's and the SS5 are carriers with large compliments of fighters and/or mecha.
NOTE:
All EMC ships come with a random assortment of fins,
turrets,
weapon and fighter/mecha bays!
The EMC Fleet
(left-to-right:
SS3, SS4 gunship, SS4 carrier, SS5)
EMC SS3 Light Cruiser/Heavy
Cruiser - $10.00 each
The SS3 serves as the eyes
and ears of the EMC battlefleets. Like all EMC ships, it carriers
a compliment of fighters and mecha, but typically uses those to support
the actions of the larger ship classes. Its Vortex Blasters are used
to wear down the shields of enemy ships before hitting it with Laser Lances.
Compared to the smaller ships used in other fleets, the EMC Cruiser Class
is sturdy and can survive much longer in the space battlefield, however,
this comes at greater expense to the EMC.
EMC SS4L Battlecruiser - $16.00
each
The workhorse of the EMC
fleets are their SS4 class ships. One of two standard designs, the
EMC battlecruiser is a gunship sporting batteries of missiles, Laser Lances
and Vortex Blasters. It typically also sports several Torp and E-torp
batteries. The battlecruiser is a long range support platform but
can still mix it up in close, thanks to its heavy armor.
EMC SS4H Battleship - $16.00
each
The other major SS4 class
ship used in the EMC fleet is their Battleship class carrier. Larger
than an escort carrier, it is not uncommon to see the SS4H leading strike
forces into enemy sectors. As a carrier, the SS4H carries scores
of fighters and mecha, which it safely launches from a distance against
enemy formations.
EMC SS5 Dreadnaught/Superdreadnaught
- $22 each
When faced with a particularly
critical mission, the EMC will allocate one or more Dreadnaught class carriers
to lead their battlegroups into combat. Capable of launching and
supporting a horde of fighters and mecha, the EMC SS5 is also equipped
with a good compliment of direct fire weapons. While not capable
of holding its own against an enemy dreadnaught class gunship, it can hold
its own long enough to get its F/M into action, overwhelming the enemy.

As a basic guideline, each point of Ship Size (SS) relates to 1" of ship length on our models. So, an SS1 is about 1" long, and an SS5 is approximately 5" long. This is a guideline, not a hard and fast rule; feel free to bend/break it with your own models as you see fit.
The main reason we bring this up here is so you can know what you are getting when you buy a Starship! model. It also explains why the larger ships tend to be geometrically more expensive than the smaller ones (we had originally hoped for a linear progression in prices related to ship size, but that turned out to be fiscal suicide...).
The smaller pieces are a different matter. They are, for want of a better descriptive term, three-dimensional chits. They are cast in resin (older ones were cast in metal, but that proved to be too expensive), and they paint up quickly and easily as shown in the photos above. Each one is approximately 3/4" across at its widest point.
There are two reasons we
decided to use essentially two-dimensional representations in lieu of three-dimensional
models for these smaller items: First, it made for easier to use
rules mechanics for these items. Starship! is a game of big ships,
not space fighter combat, and while we definitely wanted to include them
(and they are an important factor in the game), we did not want them to
overwhelm the playing of the game. The second, and more insidious
reason is that people frequently overlook the little guys, allowing them
to get in and be more effective than they would be if they were represented
by three-dimensional models placed on Battlepoles!
